Upgrade from Access Database

 This article applies to users of VORG Team .


If you have high volume of data or want to move from single user to multiple users in a networked environment, we recomment upgrading from MS Access databases to more faster and reliable MSDE, MSSQL or MySQL databases.

Steps to Upgrade from Access databases:

1. Install the new Database

If you plan to updgrate to MSDE, read How to obtain and install Microsoft MSDE and How to install MSDE ready for network use.

If you plan to updgrate to MSSQL, read How to install Microsoft SQL Server

If you plan to updgrate to MySQL, read How to install MySQL on Windows and Extend the max_allowed_packet variable


2. Create the New Database

2.1. Enable Multiple Users - go to Administration -> Settings and check the Enable Multiple Users checkbox.
2.2. Restart the application and start Database Manager. Read here how to do it.
2.3. In Database Manager click Add to add a new database connection to the application.
2.4. Using the Database Connection Wizard create a new database. Read more details in Database Connection Wizard.
2.4.1. On the Authentication in the VORG System page, in the Username textbox type Admin
2.5. After the new Database is created, close the Database Manager and do a test login into the new database.


3. Synchronize from Access to the New Database

3.1. Restart the application, and login into the Access database.
3.2. Go to Administration -> Briefcases in the main menu.
3.3. In the opened viewer, press the New Briefcase button and create the briefcase.
3.4. Once created, double-click on it to edit it.
3.5. Click on the Change link, situated unde the Remote Database label.
3.6. With the Database Connection Wizard select the newly created database.
3.7. Click the Synchronize button to run the Synchronization.
